JPEG2000 in the GIS: Migrate to the standard at special conditions
JPEG2000 within the Geo range becomes accepted rapidly. The
advantages of the wavelet-based image compression are generally
recognised. With JPEG2000 now also available as standard based
solution. Proprietary solutions such as MrSID or ECW which have been
available up to now are getting out of style. LuraWave.jp2 is more
current and supports GML, the description language of the OGC. The most
important advantage is however, that GIS users do no longer need to give
their expensive data in the hands of individual software vendors:
JPEG2000 is supported broadly by enterprises such as ESRI, Intergraph
and others and is 100% interoperable.
In order to support the migration of proprietary solutions to the JPEG2000
standard, LuraTech offers 'Competitive Upgrade' conditions for LuraWave.jp2
products until February 15, 2005: users who have been using proprietary
formats so far receive a 25% price reduction for all LuraWave.jp2 products
and licences.
Migrate now to open standards in the GIS:
LuraDocument.jpm via satellite: Offshore data acquisition more productive
Manual retyping during the data acquisition of scanned documents or even
the complete manual acquisition is very cost-intensive. Therefore
specialised enterprises offer this service in the offshore procedure. Forms
or documents are scanned here and are sent via satellite to low wage
countries such as Madagascar, India and others. Very often this is done by
using expensive and narrow-banded satellite links. It is clear that with
LuraDocument.jpm the files become much smaller, the legibility of the text
improves. Transmission costs are saved or more documents can be sent. The
productivity rises, the cost advantage of the offshore data acquisition is
improved once more.

Analog Devices ADV202: LuraWave.jp2 as 100% compatible host solution
With ADV202 of Analog Devices there is a chip based codec available for
hardware supported JPEG2000 solutions. By this e.g. video-monitoring
solutions become practicable easily because the hardware encodes high
resolution video in real time. No matter if stand alone network camera or
video box, very often the video streams shall be played back afterwards
on a PC or PC based host. A task for a high performance software
solution, briefly a task for LuraWave.jp2.
LuraWave.jp2 is the ideal software solution because it is not only 100%
compliant to the JPEG2000 standard but also practically used in numerous
ADV202 projects - more than a 'Proof-of-Concept'.

New customers opt for LuraDocument.jpm and LuraWave.jp2
Numerous new customers have opted for solutions based on LuraTech data
compression products. They include:
- The city of Stuttgart expands the use of LuraDocument.jpm on 1000 further workstations
- The city of Reutlingen decides for LuraDocument.jpm
- BKK Emmendingen orders an individually developed module for the compression and binarization of 100.000 pages daily
- Docutec AG now uses the LuraDocument binarization also for the customer AZH (Zentrale Abrechnungsstelle für Heilberufe)
- Salent Technologies, UK installs its hard-/and software solution on basis of ADV202 chip and LuraWave.jp2 at the first customer
- PDF Tools AG licenses the new JBIG2-SDK in source code as the first customer
- Oberthur, Frankreich licenses the LuraWave.jp2 package for its applications of image-databases
- Vinci Park orders the video monitoring for three further multi-storey car parks and a central office through the Belgian partner Vintage Solutions
- Ulshöfer uses the LuraDocument.jpm Command Line Tool for the compression of digitized construction documents of the city Bottrop
