LuraTech at CeBIT: Presentations, new products and VOI partner booth

This year at the CeBIT LuraTech has some things for you to see. We have a number of events where you can find out a lot about ISO-compliant image and document compression. As in the past, we will be demonstrating our products live as a VOI member at the VOI booth (Hall 1, Booth 7i2). The DMS forum is also located at the booth, with numerous interesting lectures on document management and archiving. LuraTech is also participating with its own topics:
  • March 10, 12:30 PM: New File Formats in Archiving: JPEG2000, High Compressed PDF, JBIG2, PDF/A and Others
  • March 11, 10:40 AM: The Electronic Health Record is Moving towards Color
  • March 11, 12:15 PM: Which Format to Use for Archiving? DMS Roundtable Discussion. Forum with Experts Moderated by Elisabeth Grenzebach, Editor-in-Chief of DoQ
  • March 12, 2:00 PM: New File Formats in Archiving: JPEG2000, High Compressed PDF, JBIG2, PDF/A and Others
And don't forget to look at the other pieces of news announced in this issue of eNews: The complete integration of LuraDocument JPM and PDF in the Kodak Capture Software (it can also be seen at the Kodak booth, Hall 1 Booth 6d2), and of course the completely revised version 2.2 of LuraDocument PDF Compressor Server.

Kodak and LuraTech: LuraDocument formats completely integrated in Capture Software

The use of the ISO-compliant LuraDocument JPM and LuraDocument PDF is getting much easier for many users and service providers who use Kodak products at the same time. Because Kodak and LuraTech have integrated both formats into the Kodak Capture Software. That way you can export highly compressed color, grey-scale and even black&white files directly from the Capture Software. This files are not only highly compressed, but have excellent text quality at the same time. The intermediate step, which used to be necessary and only temporarily generated TIFF or JPG files intended for compression, is no longer necessary. This complete integration saves time and money. Now users can seamlessly create LuraDocument formats, which are quickly gaining in significance. The Capture color process has finally been realized in a single tool. If you, too, are open to quickly getting a competitive advantage, then stop by Kodak (Hall 1 Booth 6d2) or LuraTech (Hall 1, Booth 7i2) and consult with the color experts!

JBIG2 SDK: Now available as stand-alone product

JBIG2 has already been available since autumn of last year as component of the JPM and PDF product of the LuraDocument family. And now we even have an independent JBIG2 SDK available. The SDK covers all of the JBIG2 ISO standard options and compresses both lossless formats comparable to TIFF Fax G4 - but even 30% better - and also visual lossless formats. In the latter case, minor mathematical losses are allowed and enormous compression rates in the black&white area are generated by means of a symbol-matching algorithm.

The SDK is already being used. PDF Tools AG, for example, is expanding its PDF solutions with JBIG2 to be compatible with the PDF 1.5 specification. Atalasoft in the U.S. has integrated JBIG2 into its Imaging Toolkit and expanded it by one more format.

Customers who want to use the JBIG2 embedded in black&white or color PDF files can do this either with the PDF Compressor products or by using the JBIG2 AddOn for the PDF C-SDK. JBIG2-compressed black&white PDF files are up to 40% smaller than the well-known G4-compressed TIFF files!

Completely revised version: PDF Compressor 2.2 with introductory offer

With the new version 2.2 of LuraDocument PDF Compressor, users can now compress both scanned documents and already existing PDF documents down to a minimum size. The PDF Compressor uses the methods of the ISO standard JPEG2000/Part6. It compresses the files and reduces their size to a minimum. In this reduced form, the files can be read by Acrobat Reader version 5.0 and later: additional plug-ins are not necessary.

For a limited time LuraTech is offering an introductory discount of about 20 percent off the price of the new server version.

The JP2 and PDF files of Adobe can now be compressed, in addition to the familiar input formats TIFF, JPEG, BMP and PNM. Existing PDF files, in particular, can be significantly optimized again if they were created from scans or contain a lot of images and graphics.

Many users, especially in libraries and archives, use the new JPEG2000 format in lossless mode to create and archive a 'digital master' for their long-term archiving. The PDF Compressor can be used to turn this still very large, but lossless original into a handy PDF to make it available, e.g., in a web application.

Scan service providers, among others, can now create multiple folders ('hot folders') with individual profiles and thus implement customer- and application-specific job settings.

PDF Compressor 2.2 is available in the 'Server' or 'Medium' versions. The already familiar 'Desktop' version is still available and unchanged as an option for distributed scan processes.
