Fully integrated: LuraDocument JPM/PDF QuickScan Pro Exporter

Luratech's QuickScan Pro Exporter offers a solution which is fast and easy to use for the data exchange and the concluding archiving of scanned documents. The Exporter integrates seamlessly into QuickScan Pro, the capturing software of Pixel Translation, a department of Captiva Software. QuickScan Pro makes it possible to scan, view, process, print and store paper documents. Every day companies receive paper documents that contain some form of important color information. Moreover, in electronic workflow processes, end users typically recognize and process color documents that are true to their originals faster than black and white versions missing important data. Therefore working in color can achieve higher rates of productivity and cost savings. The LuraDocument JPM and PDF formats make color possible through intelligent compression. Now companies can scan documents in color and maintain their original look and feel while meeting the same stringent storage and bandwidth requirements previously only met by black and white, low resolutions scans. In fact, LuraDocument JPM and PDF files, despite being in color, are the same size as the well known black and white FaxG4 TIFF files. But even organizations that work only with black and white documents can also benefit. LuraDocument JPM and PDF compress black and white scans to sizes 50% smaller than Fax G4 TIFF files!

At the same time LuraTech formats are 100% compatible to international standards such as JPEG2000, JBIG2 and others. This gives companies interoperability, vendor independence, and guaranteed long-term accessibility to their documents. Kai Wille, Captiva Sales Manager EMEA, commented on the co-operation with LuraTech, 'Users of QuickScan gain a genuine increase in value by the new LuraDocument JPM/PDF QuickScan Pro Exporter. They save time and money since they can export their documents directly from their capturing application into the LuraDocument PDF and JPM formats. Therefore the exporter takes over all work procedures from the generation of the index files to the creation of true to the original electronic documents in only one step.'

New version: LuraDocument PDF Compressor Medium and Server 2.6

The new PDF Compressor Server and Medium can now compress any PDF file that contains images and maintain any hidden text such as OCR results, annotations, bookmarks, etc. Therefore if you OCR your scanned documents, you now can produce very simple, highly compressed files, that are full-text-searchable with the new version 2.6 of the PDF compressor.

The new compression mode works with color and black/white scans. It also works even if the original PDF was developed from a digital original and contains images (e.g. word-document). For example, a manual containing many screenshots or illustrations can be better compressed by using LuraDocument PDF Compressor.

Oce and LuraTech: Strong OEM-partnership in the LuraDocument PDF range

After intensive preparations and testing, Oce Deutschland GmbH, the Wide Format Printing Systems business unit, and LuraTech GmbH agreed to an extensive cooperation to market and sell the LuraDocument PDF solution for the compression of wide format scans.

Oce has integrated the LuraDocument PDF Compressor software into an OEM version called the Oce Image Compressor.

The ability to produce highly compressed PDF files are particularly beneficial for customers if they are scanning large sized documents with scanners like the TCS410 from Oce. Often times large format color scans are only manageable with efficient compression since their data size can create serious bandwidth and storage issues. By using the LuraDocument PDF engine, the Oce Image Compressor maintains excellent image quality while reducing the size of the files to sizes. Moreover, large format black and white scans can be reduced to half their original size as well.

Oce's large size scanners are used at customers who work with engineering plans, maps and technical designs, all of which are optimal for the new Oce Image Compressor powered with the LuraDocument PDF compression engine. For example, large scanned formatted documents no longer need to overload networks and can easily be sent by email. As access times are shorten, end user productivity increases. And of course, additional savings in archiving storage is achieved.

Libraries and archives use JPEG2000 and XML meta files

Never neglect metadata! This could be the slogan for the digitization at libraries and archives. The good news is that the JPEG2000 standard offers sophisticated possibilities to link metadata with the image files. If metadata is present in private or uncommon formats, you can transfer and store it without modification into the so-called ~UUID box~ of the JPEG2000 file formats.
Moreover, if the Meta data is present as XML, then entire XML file can easily be embedded into the JPEG2000 file. In fact, there are several different types of XML data that can be accepted within the JPEG2000 file format, for example, technical meta files, file content information, and collection information to name a few. The advantage is obvious: once firmly embedded in the image file, you never have to rely on complex database solutions to link the image file to the metadata ever again, an especially risky proposition a hundred years from now! And JPEG2000 connects the lossless 'digital original' directly to the metadata contents for extremely fast access.

All of the LuraWave JP2 products, including the Command Line Tool, support all these features. The Command Line Tool can batch process images for mass conversion projects while supporting all of the JPEG2000 compression, decompression and appending any needed XML for the files.
