The newest version of PDF Compressor Server now maintains the quality of embedded images, such as photographs, logos and graphics. The old version PDF Compressor Server applied Mixed Raster Content (MRC) Compression across the entire scanned document, including images embedded on the scanned page. As a result, embedded images also would be segmented into three layers, creating damaging and visible artifacts. The new PDF Compressor Server can identify the location of embedded images and preserve them prior to the MRC compression, thus maintaining the original look and feel of those images. Digitized newspapers, journals and magazines can benefit greatly from MRC compression without sacrificing the visual quality of their embedded photographs, logos and graphics.
Also, we have been able to improve the average compression rate for PDF/A files by 10 percent to 15 percent. You notice this benefit because the scanned and compressed documents are now even smaller and require less storage space. Specifically, this means that the files can be more quickly opened and downloaded from the archive, and also sent more quickly as e-mail attachments.
Last but not least, the LuraDocument PDF Compressor is now available with a professional electronic signature from the Swiss company OPENLiMiT SignCubes AG. Highly-compressed PDF or PDF/A files can be signed electronically and stored in a way that meets legal requirements in a single step, using just one tool. The OPENLiMiT software has been certified by the Federal Office for Security and Information Technology (BSI) in accordance with the international IT security standard, Common Criteria EAL 4+.
