PDF/A Competence Center and AIIM announce seminar focused on PDF/A to be held in Chicago

August 6, 2009 – The PDF/A Competence Center, together with AIIM, have announced the first in a series of U.S. based PDF/A seminars. This half day, vendor neutral educational event will take place on September 15, 2009 at McCormick Place in Chicago as part of PRINT09. Attendees will be given the opportunity to learn about the PDF/A file format while attending the printing industry’s premier event, PRINT09.

Attendees will learn about how ISO 19005-1 defines a file format based on Portable Document Format (PDF) for the long-term archiving of electronic documents in a manner that preserves their visual appearance. PDF/A, or PDF/Archived, is a subset of PDF, a widely accepted and universal standard for the secure and reliable delivery of an electronic document regardless of the application or platform used to create it. Attendees will also learn about the advantages for using the PDF/A file format, as well as how it is being and can be applied.

LuraTech’s President, Mark McKinney, will speak about PDF/A for scanned documents and will explain how paper becomes digital. Other experts in the field will cover a variety of topics and address the following questions:

  • What exactly is PDF/A?
  • What are the advantages of PDF/A?
  • What documents can I archive with PDF/A?
  • What do we mean by conformance levels?
  • How important is metadata?
  • Who is using PDF/A?

The PDF/A Seminar will open at 8:00 a.m. and close at noon on September 15, 2009. Mark McKinney’s presentation, PDF/A for Scanned Documents: Paper Becomes Digital, will take place at 9:05 a.m. The registration fee for this event is $125 and includes a copy of the publication PDF/A in a Nutshell
