Savings and Loan Institution, Kreissparkasse Ludwigsburg, First Client to Implement PDF/A Solution for Secure, Long-Term Archiving

At the DMS Expo last month in Cologne, Germany, LuraTech announced that it is partnering with Bechtle GmbH IT Systemhaus Köln to deliver a long-term archiving solution for Germany’s financial industry. By combining LuraTech’s PDF Compressor with Bechtle’s OSP Archive Link data capture solution, financial institutions will be able to produce PDF/A-1b files for archiving, enabling digitized reproductions of credit files and other bank statements to be stored and read long into the future. Kreissparkasse Ludwigsburg, a savings and loan institution, is the first customer to implement this solution.

Banks and savings institutions process large quantities of paper documents, which must be retained for years. Additionally, they have large quantities of digital documents that require careful storage planning to ensure quick access to information. The PDF/A format – which is supported as an archiving format by Finanz Informatik, the IT service provider for Germany’s Sparkasse financial group – enables documents to be archived and readable for many years with small file sizes to optimize storage.

LuraTech’s document conversion solutions deliver highly compressed, searchable documents that are suitable for long-term archiving, efficient storage and fast retrieval. The conversion software is easy to use and produces digitized documents that remain true to the original and are compressed – either in black and white or color – into PDF/A files that are small enough to be sent as e-mail attachments. The small file size enables fast access to the documents and requires less storage space.

Bechtle’s OSP Archive Link capture solution allows savings institutions to archive documents with one or more pages as black and white, grayscale or color PDF/A-1b files in the central OSPlus archive of Finanz Informatik. The standards-compliant files can be read with any PDF reader.

“We are the first Sparkasse savings institution to make the transition to the next generation of technology and archive all documents in the central OSPlus archive in color in PDF/A-1b format. The LuraTech PDF Compressor software was utterly simple to use and was integrated in the Bechtle OSP Archive Link capture solution very quickly,” said Martin Ott, IT coordinator in the service center of Kreissparkasse Ludwigsburg. “The highly compressed color documents produced this way are no larger than comparable black and white TIFF G4 documents. So we have added value with color – which pleases our users very much – without greater archiving or network costs, or slower response times.”
