JPEG2000 compression software for color document scans from LuraTech now available in France
LuraTech presents the ISO-conforming LuraDocument.jpm compression tool at the Forum de la Geide.
Berlin/Paris - At this year's Forum de la Geide trade fair, LuraTech, the
JPEG2000 specialist, announces the availability of LuraDocument.jpm in France.
Using this new JPEG2000/Part6 ISO standard-based tool, a color document can be
compressed down to one or two percent of its original size, keeping near-perfect
image quality while vastly reducing storage and bandwidth costs.
LuraDocument.jpm can be seen in action at the Forum de la Geide, booth D25
with EBConsulting.
Using mixed raster content technology, LuraDocument.jpm splits scanned color
documents into separate layers for text and graphics. The software then uses
wavelet-based JPEG2000 image compression to shrink images to a fraction of
their original size, while the text portion of a document remains sharp and
clear enough to read, reprint and even search using optical character
recognition. This eliminates previous business concerns about the color image
quality/storage cost ratio and represents an additional rationale for more
widespread use of color in the corporate environment.
Open Standard versus Proprietary Platforms
LuraDocument.jpm is the first solution for compressing color documents to be
based on an international open standard, JPEG2000/Part6, where other products
were - and remain - based on closed, proprietary standards. LuraTech has also
launched a PDF Add-On. This enables conversion of scanned, color documents to
the widely-used PDF format, naturally with the same excellent compression
results as with LuraDocument.jpm. Additional investment costs are thereby saved.
Jim Rile, president of James Rile Associates and editor of www.planetdjvu.com
comments: "I have been a mixed raster evangelist for some time and am
pleased to see that LuraTech is making it accessible and affordable for
corporations. I tested LuraDocument.jpm as well as the PDF Add-On for my
JRAPublish product, and, based on test results, LuraDocument.jpm was an obvious
choice. I also appreciated the fact that LuraTech offers enterprise-class
technical support, which is very rare in this space."
"We are excited to see increasing market traction for color image
compression around the world," said Carsten Heiermann, Managing Director
of LuraTech. "Organizations are beginning to adopt and see the value of
color compression technologies that allow them to maintain cost-effective
imaging projects while benefiting from the better aesthetics of color.
Ultimately, we believe that color imaging will mirror the color television
revolution-there won't be a business without it."
Partnership in France
To keep pace with the growing demand for color image compression, LuraTech,
based in Germany, plans further investments to extend its international
distribution and partnership networks. In France, EBConsulting is a local
partner who can consult customers and implement successful color scan projects.
"We are working together with LuraTech for more than 2 years." said
Eric Becker, Managing Director of EBConsulting, Paris, "With affordable and
fast color scanners available now, the time has come to offer our scan service
in color and adding LuraDocument.jpm, we can provide our customers an excellent
solution for their archive in color !".
LuraTech is a leading provider of compression software technology for images
