LuraTech and Atalasoft Partner to Offer Fast, Easy and High Quality Image Compression in .Net Environments

Redwood City, Calif. - LuraTech, the leader in open standard image compression software, together with Atalasoft, advanced imaging solution provider for .NET, have partnered to deliver high compression options for images scanned in a .NET environment. LuraTech's LuraWave JP2 and LuraDocument JBIG2 products, combined with the Atalasoft DotImage imaging toolkit, enables enterprise content management providers to offer quick and cost efficient compressed color and B/W images with improved overall image quality and flexibility.

Atalasoft's DotImage is a full-featured Microsoft .NET imaging toolkit for raster and document based imaging applications in .NET or ASP.NET. It also includes a codec add-on for reading and writing JPEG2000 images. The toolkit now includes image compression options via LuraTech's LuraWave JP2 and LuraDocument JBIG2 products. Still image compression product LuraWave JP2 is based on the open standard JPEG2000/Part1 and is ideally suited for web-based graphics, databases and mobile communications. LuraDocument JBIG2 compresses black/white content and allows both lossless and lossy compression, meeting a full range of quality and file size needs.

"We selected LuraTech because of the superior quality and increased speed that their products offer," said Bill Bither, President and Chief Architect for Atalasoft. "LuraTech's high-performance, C interface libraries will be integrated into our flagship product, DotImage, bringing to market a JPEG2000 and JBIG2 codec that fully conforms to the JPEG2000 and JBIG2 specifications."

Based on the open imaging standard JPEG2000, the toolkit provides both Lossy and Lossless image compression, as well as a greater range of options in what images can be compressed and at what levels. For example, users can conduct region of interest compression to specify an area of the image with higher quality. The product also offers full metadata support.

"Proprietary imaging standards that restrict what and how images are compressed are a thing of the past and only those based on open standards such as JPEG2000 and JBIG2 can adequately support customers' needs," said Carsten Heiermann, president of LuraTech. "Atalasoft shares our vision for open standard-based image compression and this partnership offers .NET companies a means to experience immediate benefits from the superior speed and quality of our combined imaging and compression technology."
