LuraDocument PDF Compressor 2.2 now available
Scanned and existing PDF documents compressed to minimal file size
(Berlin) With the new version 2.2 of LuraDocument PDF Compressor, users can now
compress existing PDF documents as well as scanned documents to a minimal file
size. The PDF Compressor uses the ISO standard JPEG2000/Part 6 process. This
process compresses the files and reduces the file size to the bare minimum.
Files compressed in this manner can be read using Acrobat Reader Version 5.0 or
later. No additional plug-ins are necessary. During the limited introductory
promotion, LuraTech is offering a discount of approximately 20 percent on the
new server version. Existing PDF Compressor users will receive a free upgrade
to LuraDocument PDF Compressor 2.2 as part of their support and maintenance
contracts.
The LuraDocument PDF Compressor is a Windows application that automatically
converts files to highly compressed PDF files. In addition to TIFF, JPEG, BMP
and PNM, the software now also supports JP2 and the Adobe PDF format as input
formats. The original files are compressed using lossy compression at a rate of
300:1. The LuraDocument PDF Compressor achieves this via the ISO standard
JPEG2000/Part 6. It separates text and image elements into individual layers
and compresses these separately with the best algorithms available for each
part. This results in excellent text and image quality even in files of the
smallest size. The LuraDocument PDF Compressor compresses a DIN A4 page in RGB
color at a resolution of 300 dpi to approximately 50 KB.
Save time and money
Existing PDF files can be significantly optimized if they were created from
scans or if they contain a very large number of images and graphics.
Many users, particularly in libraries and archives, use the new JPEG2000 format
in the lossless mode. They create and store a so-called digital master for their
longterm archives. This still rather large but lossless original can be
transformed into a handy PDF using the PDF Compressor, so that it can be made
available in a Web application, for example.
For instance, the Japanese National Archive scans its maps, which can be up to
5 square meters in size. From these, so-called JP2 lossless files are created,
i.e. digital masters with file sizes of roughly 3 gigabytes for such large maps.
With the LuraDocument PDF Compressor, these are reduced to DIN A4 and
approximately 300 KB - which can easily be sent by e-mail.
Scanning service providers also benefit from the new additional functions of the
latest version. They can create several folders with individual profiles - thus
implementing customer- and application-specific job settings. In this step,
LuraDocument can also be used to create new PDF meta-tags such as "Company"
or "Author".
Two versions for differing requirements
The PDF Compressor is - depending on your document requirements - available in
the "Server" or "Medium" versions. The server version
automatically monitors input directories, compresses files located there and
files them in defined output directories. It runs as a Windows service and can
therefore be used on servers, both in work groups as well as in the conventional
capture process.
The medium version offers the same extensive functionality as the server
version. With regard to performance capacity, it is designed for companies with
medium volumes of documents. The LuraDocument PDF Compressor Medium is supplied
together with a single license for the PDF conversion of 20,000 pages.
The already familiar desktop version of LuraDocument PDF Compressor is still
available as an option for distributed scanning processes.
