Exchange documents faster and cut memory requirements with the QuickScan Pro Exporter by LuraTech
(Berlin) Today the compression specialist LuraTech announced the release of the
LuraDocument JPM/PDF QuickScan Pro Exporter. This module allows users of
QuickScan Pro capture software to export digitized documents to LuraDocument JPM
or PDF formats, which are highly compressed yet look like their originals. Since
the file sizes are greatly reduced, data transfer and downloads are faster. The
Exporter can be found on the Internet at
www.luratech.com/products/luradocument/jpm/qsp.
The QuickScan Pro Exporter by LuraTech offers a flexible, efficient solution
for data exchange and archiving of scanned documents. It provides a convenient
extension of QuickScan Pro functionality. This data capture tool from Captiva
Software enables scanning, editing, viewing, printing and saving of paper
documents.
Standards-compliant compression with LuraDocument
The incoming paper documents that arrive daily at companies are mostly in color
in one form or another. Until now, these have generally been scanned in black
and white due to the high cost of storing color scans. However, studies show
that when scan documents maintain their orginal look and feel, end users
recognize and process them faster than black and white copies that lack key
color content. Therefore color scans mean higher productivity and lower costs
during workflow processes. The LuraDocument JPM and PDF formats provide the
key: color documents can now be processed in a form that is true to the original
and meet the same memory and download requirements that previously only black
and white documents achieved. In fact, full color LuraDocument JPM or PDF files
are in fact the same size as the familiar black and white Fax G4 TIFF files.
However, even companies that exclusively work with black and white documents can
benefit from the new export module. If black and white documents are saved as
LuraDocument JPM or PDF files, their size will also be reduced to 50% smaller
than the original Fax G4 TIFF files.
And LuraTech formats are 100% compatible with international standards such as
JPEG2000/Part6. Interoperability, cross-platform capability, long-term secure
access options for documents and revision security are guaranteed.
A further advantage of this technology is that text content is recognized and
extracted better by OCR programs. Due to the JPEG2000/Part6 segmentation and
compression process, the text is decopled from the background, making it much
cleaner and clearer. This allows OCR engines to achieve even better text
recognition rates.
The QuickScan Pro Exporter supports LuraDocument JPM and PDF format.
LuraDocument PDF saves the compressed documents in the standardized PDF file
format. The files produced can be read by Acrobat Reader 5.0 or higher, thus
avoiding the need to install additional plug-ins. Users can also choose to save
files in the native ISO standard JPM (JPEG2000/Part6) format.
This is how it works
After scanning, Quickscan Pro creates TIFF or JPEG files from the documents.
Then the Quick Scan Pro Exporter is used to generate either LuraDocument PDF or
JPEG2000/Part6 (JPM) files. Multiple-page documents can also be produced this
way. The compressed files are automatically placed in a new directory together
with customized XML-based index files.
Kai Wille, Captiva Sales Manager EMEA, had the following comments on the
collaboration with LuraTech: "The new LuraDocument JPM/PDF QuickScan Pro
Exporter provides true added value for Quickscan users. They save time and
money, because they can export directly to LuraDocument PDF or JPM format from
the capture application. The Exporter handles all the details from creating the
files to generating index information. This way, electronic documents true to
the originals can be produced in a single step."
