LuraDocument optimizes document handling from incoming mail to archiving original-like copies

(Berlin/Essen) During this year's DMS trade show, LuraTech GmbH will demonstrate how organizations can optimize the processing of incoming (at the Kodak booth in Hall 1, Stand 1650). The basis for this is the LuraDocument software solution, which separates text portions of scanned documents from other content, such as logos and background graphics, thus facilitating OCR processing. Since the OCR software must only interpret straight text information without background color interference, the results are more accurate. Text recognition rates are increased considerably, resulting in much less manual correction afterward.

When the documents are saved, LuraDocument recombines the text and color information and compresses the files in the standards-compliant LuraDocument JPM or PDF format. The result is digital documents that look like their originals but have very small file sizes.

The DMS trade show will once again be held in Essen this year from September 27 to 29.

Growing numbers of organizations have begun to scan their incoming mail as it is received in order to make it available for subsequent digital processing. High-performance OCR solutions are used to recognize data contained in the documents and make it available to networked back office systems such as ERP software.

Better text recognition through color elimination

Most of the paper documents that cause difficulties in text recognition are in color. LuraDocument from LuraTech GmbH separates the text from background images and color prior to OCR processing. The effect of separation makes images optimized by LuraDocument superior to black and white scans, with better OCR results.

Documents like the originals with the smallest possible size

When the documents are saved afterward, LuraDocument recombines the text and color information and compresses the files in the standards-compliant LuraDocument JPM or PDF format. The OCR result can be saved directly in the files. All color information from the original documents is present in the digital image. Thus, for example, the color of a pen used to sign a document or test passages marked with a highlighter can be seen clearly, providing critical support for OCR post-processing and the entire subsequent workflow in the organization.

Yet full color LuraDocument JPM or PDF files are only as big as those in black and white Fax G4 TIFF format. But even organizations that work only with black and white documents can benefit from black and white scans that are compressed to half the size of Fax G4 TIFF files.
