Prepress specialist callas software relies on LuraTech for support of JPEG 2000 and JBIG2 in PDF documents
(Berlin) Once again the prepress specialist callas software in Berlin has
demonstrated its innovative approach by integrating the market-leading compression
technology from LuraTech GmbH for supporting JPEG 2000 and JBIG2 formats in callas
products. This enables users of callas products to process JPEG 2000 or JBIG2
image data contained in a PDF document like any other familiar image format.
JPEG 2000 has been available as a PDF compression method since PDF version 1.5;
JBIG2 compression was incorporated in the PDF specification as of version 1.4.
The integration of image data compressed with JBIG2 or JPEG 2000 significantly
reduces the size of PDF files.
JBIG2 is a method for compressing bitmap data developed by the JPEG group. Due to
its higher compression rates, JBIG2 is expected to replace the current widespread
use of the Fax G4 format (CCITT Fax G4) for document compression. LuraDocument
JBIG2 permits both lossless and lossy compression and thus satisfies the
requirements for quality and file size in the best way.
JPEG 2000/Part1 is used for compressing continuous tone images. LuraWave JP2 is
the leading implementation of this new image compression standard and was
especially designed for use in state-of-the-art, Web-based graphics and database
applications as well as for transmission on mobile end devices. The advanced
wavelet technology in LuraWave JP2 offers significantly better visual quality
with smaller file size than the current widely-used JPEG format.
callas software has integrated both products in the company's pdfInspektor,
pdfColorConvert and pdfCorrect products.
"The decisive factors for us in the choice of the LuraTech libraries were
their outstanding quality and performance as well as the simplicity of
integration on the platforms supported by our PDF technologies: Windows, Mac
OS/X, Linux and Sun Solaris," Olaf Drümmer, CEO of callas software GmbH,
remarked, very pleased.
