A line-up you can count on: LuraTech presents PDF/A compatible solutions at CeBIT (Hall 1, Stand L 77)
(Berlin) The compression specialist LuraTech remains true to the company
philosophy and continues to emphasize ISO-compliant products. The company
will present its PDF/A compatible products for the first time at CeBIT, making
it one of the first providers to support the new ISO format. Users can employ
LuraDocument PDF products to convert their scanned documents and existing PDFs
in highly compressed and full text searchable PDFs that are then also compatible
with the PDF/A standard. Last year, the International Organization for
Standardization (ISO) designated PDF/A as a standard for long-term archiving.
This provides assurance to companies and public agencies that documents archived
in this format will maintain their appearance and accessibility regardless of
which applications and systems were used to create them.
PDF/A is the ISO 19005-1 standard for long-term archiving in PDF format. It
comprises a limited variant of PDF, a standard for the use of PDF in long-term
archiving. The syntax specifies in detail what content is allowed and what is
not. These and other specifications are intended to ensure long-term readability
of the documents regardless of the application software and operating system in
which they were originally produced. Experts predict that the designation of
PDF/A as an ISO standard will promote the popularity of that format, and
advantages such as full text search capabilities will lead to it replacing TIFF
in the near future.
Comprehensive product portfolio for data compression with PDF/A support
Users can employ LuraDocument PDF products to convert their scanned documents
and existing PDFs in highly compressed and full text searchable PDFs that are
also compatible with the PDF/A standard.
The compressed PDF files can be read using Adobe Acrobat Reader version 5.0 or
later, which is available free of charge. The smaller size of these compressed
files facilitates the exchange of information between companies or via the
Internet. Smaller files mean significantly faster downloads and data transfer.
The LuraDocument product portfolio includes LuraDocument JPM, the LuraDocument
JPM/PDF Kodak CS Exporter, the LuraDocument JPM/PDF QuickScan Pro Exporter and
the LuraDocument PDF Compressor.
In addition to the emphasis PDF/A, LuraTech will present the latest developments
for the familiar JPEG 2000 products. LuraWave JP2 is the leading implementation
of the new JPEG 2000 Part 1 image compression standard and was designed
especially for use in state-of-the-art, Web-based graphics and database
applications. In archiving, JPEG 2000 is used in lossless mode as a
"digital master" for high-quality archived images and offers many
advantages in this application compared to uncompressed TIFF.
LuraDocument JPM in turn is the world's first implementation of the new ISO
standard JPEG2000/Part6 for compression of documents scanned in color which
contain both one-bit elements (such as text and technical drawings) and images.
The LuraDocument JPM/PDF Kodak CS Exporter enables users to export documents
digitized with Kodak Capture software. The documents can be output as
LuraDocument JPM or PDF formats, which are highly compressed and look like their
originals. The LuraDocument JPM/PDF QuickScan Pro Exporter provides the same
functionality for documents digitized using QuickScan Pro capture software.
Full color LuraDocument JPM or PDF files are basically the same size as the
familiar black and white Fax G4 TIFF files. But even organizations that work
only with black and white documents benefit from black and white scans that are
half the size of Fax G4 TIFF files.
The LuraDocument PDF Compressor compresses scanned documents and existing PDF
files. Integrated OCR technology from ABBYY facilitates full-text searching and
extraction of words or text passages in the compressed files.
German competence center for PDF/A
Recently, LuraTech and PDF Tools AG jointly founded a competence-center for
PDF/A. It offers extensive support in German for questions regarding the new
standard and its implementation.
