PDF/A-3 All change for document based processes!

2012-08-08 Presented by Carsten Heiermann

PDF/A-3 has just one more feature than PDF/A-2, but it’s a key one: documents of any kind, including Excel tables, Word documents, HTML or XML files, can be embedded as attachments into a PDF/A document. This combines machine- or human-readable data with a digital image, all in the same file. This also makes it possible to fulfil two previously mutually exclusive needs: to keep working with a “living” document, and to archive it. Using concrete examples of usage, the webinar will demonstrate some of the new solutions that PDF/A-3 makes possible.

Reading Forms and Freeform Recognition with DocYard

2012-06-21 Presented by Carsten Heiermann and Helmut Schünemann

Reading forms and freeform recognition with DocYard: the alternative to established, expensive capture systems.

This time, it's all about reading forms and freeform recognition with DocYard, and how you can make more effective use of automated classification and data extraction functions with DocYard.

Our FormRecognition module, well known from the PDF Compressor, is of course also available to our DocYard customers. DocYard integrates the individual processing steps involved in classification, data extraction and QA modules into centrally-managed and --monitored workflows of any level of complexity. This kind of management means even multi-tier recognition and validation processes can be carried out, such as a peer review principle during capture or QA. DocYard's rights system ensures that only authorised personnel have access to documents being processed.

LuraTech FormRecognition reveals its full potential when integrated into the DocYard environment, presenting a cost-effective alternative to established, expensive capture systems

Email conversion to PDF/A

2011-02-28 - Presented by Thomas Zellmann

With businesses facing the problem of how to manage an ever-increasing number of e-mails and attachments, the subject of e-mail archiving is very topical at the moment.

One important aspect is the file format used to archive the emails and, perhaps more importantly, their attachments. The PDF/A ISO standard for long-term archiving is particularly relevant here, and many users are already using this file format to guarantee future access and readability to their archived data. The Webinar will provide a brief introduction to the whole subject of e-mail management and will describe the PDF/A standard, explaining how to convert e-mail attachments to PDF/A. This will be followed by a demonstration of server-based automated e-mail conversion to PDF/A, using the LuraDocument PDF Compressor and the Born Digital option.

Born Digital to PDF/A Option for Long-Term Archiving

2009-06-09 - Presented by Mark McKinney  & Armin Ortmann

These webinars will focus on the new "Born Digital Module" of the PDF Compressor 5.3

The PDF Compressor 5.3 now represents a complete conversion solution covering the entire process chain after scanning and digital creation of documents from data extraction to exporting for long-term archiving. The current expansion includes the innovative "born digital". This permits the conversion of electronically produced documents from MS Office, Outlook (e-mail) and electronically created PDF files into PDF or PDF/A formats, so they can be processed stack-wise just as simply with the PDF Compressor as scanned paper documents. Thus long-term archiving for documents with digital content can be planned and carried out just like for scanned documents. A simple user interface ensures convenient operation and seamless integration in existing workflows.

The webinar will cover the conversion of born digital documents to PDF/A, specifically addressing the fundamentals of  PDF/A for record managers and offering support to IT departments for any organization interested in retention and archiving. During this webinar, participants will learn:

How to batch process born digital documents into PDF/A. Examples of our application include converting e-mails into PDF/A for long-term archival and compliance.

PDF/A for Scanned Documents

2009-01-29 - Presented by Carsten Heiermann  & Armin Ortmann

  • Briefly explain the PDF/A file format
  • Review PDF/A features that support scanned documents and meet your organization's archival goals
  • Discuss how to implement PDF/A within your scan workflow.

Businesses and government agencies of all types regularly scan documents to PDF for creation of electronic documents and records. But what happens when these organizations need to ensure the accessibility of these documents well into the future?

That's where PDF/A comes in. PDF/A was built on the widely accepted PDF file format to establish an international standard for preserving the visual appearance of electronic documents, independent of the tools and systems used for creating, storing or accessing the files. PDF/A is especially beneficial for organizations that scan large amount of records since it:

  • Maintains static visual representation of the original scanned documents
  • Allows OCR results to be embedded, thus creating full-text searchable PDF files
  • Greatly reduces storage/bandwidth costs by allowing state-of-the art compression techniques.

Because it is an ISO standard (ISO 19005-1), PDF/A has become a vital tool for public or private organizations that must archive electronic files and ensure that they can be accurately reproduced and accessed, regardless of the software or hardware used.
