PDF and PDF/A Document Conversion Solutions

What is PDF?
PDF is an acronym for Portable Document Format. PDF makes it possible to send formatted documents and have them appear on the recipient's monitor or printer as they were intended, independent of hardware or operating system.

Is PDF/A the same thing as PDF?
No it is not. While PDF/A uses PDF format, this ISO standard is designed for the long-term archiving of electronic documents.  It offers users a way for representing electronic documents in a manner that preserves their visual appearance over time, independent of the tools and systems used for creating, storing or rending the files. The PDF/A standard does not define an archiving strategy or the goals of an archiving system, instead it identifies a “profile” for electronic documents that ensures the documents can be reproduced in years to come.

What types of PDF and PDF/A products does LuraTech offer?
We offer the LuraDocument® PDF Compressor that uses best-in-class mixed raster content (MRC) layered compression technology to deliver high-quality, highly compressed PDF and PDF/A files. Many of our solutions include an integrated ABBYY OCR engine for full text search capabilities. We also have a comprehensive set of plug-ins and tool kits for integrating document compression into your workflow and applications. Additionally, we offer several tools designed to support creation and validation of PDF/A files.

Can I see a demo of PDF Compressor?
Absolutely.  For our Desktop version, you can simply download it and begin using it immediately.  For our other versions – Basic, Advanced and Server – you can request a trial online and someone on the LuraTech team will contact you to ensure the demo version you receive is appropriate for your organization’s document conversion demands.

How fast is your PDF Compressor?  How many documents can I process?
The compression speeds depend on the content you are putting into the system and which settings you select. Our free trial software can let you gain firsthand experience in using PDF Compressor in your individual scenario.

On which platforms will PDF Compressor work?
Currently it will work on Windows OS (Win32).

Does the Desktop version PDF Compressor offer OCR or batch processing capabilities?
Yes. Our advanced PDF compressions solutions offer these features.

Is OCR offered as an optional component in your advanced solutions?
The ABBYY OCR engine is embedded with every installation of PDF Compressor Basic, Advanced and Server.  However, we believe you will find great value in having the both OCR and MRC compression integrated into a single solution.

Do we have to pay per page to use PDF Compressor?
We believe that an unlimited usage model offers our customers more flexibility to use our PDF and PDF/A solutions.  However, we do offer a per-page option if that is better suited to your project needs.

Can I integrate your PDF compression technology into my workflow or application?
Yes. Deep integration into your workflow can be achieved with our software development kits. Our PDF Compressor Server also offers capabilities that enable it to integrate.

JPEG2000 Imaging Solutions

What is JPEG2000?
JPEG2000 is a wavelet-based image compression standard that enables images to be retained digitally without distortion or loss., More than just a successor to the JPEG file format, the JPEG2000 standard is comprised of a family of parts that address still digital imagery (Part 1) and scanned documents (Part 6).

What types of JPEG2000 products does LuraTech offer?
We offer a number of products, such as source code and software development kits (SDKs) that can be built into your applications, conversion and command line tools for integration into existing workflow and the LuraWave® JP2 Image Content Server for extensive digital archiving projects.

What level of compression can I achieve with your software?
We offer the best balance of compression rates, image quality and performance of any solution on the market today. The compression rate depends on the input file (TIFF vs. an already compressed JPG) and whether you prefer lossless or lossy output.  We offer a free trial of our software, so we’d invite you to test it out on the images you need to compress. Plus, our support team is available to help you choose the right settings for your unique needs.

What platforms do you support with your SDK’s?  Do you support Win64?
We support a variety of platforms, including Windows (Win32, Win64), Linux, Solaris and more.

How fast are your SDKs compared to other implementations of JPEG2000?
We have one of the fastest on the market.  However, while speed is extremely important, you must also consider image quality and compression rates.  Since those three factors are all interrelated, we like to believe we offer the most balanced implementation – combing fast performance with superior image quality and compression rates.

How much does your software cost?
Our competitive pricing model takes into account a number of factors about how the product will be used. Will it be embedded in a larger application that is then sold and widely distributed? Or, are you implementing our software within a workflow at your organization?  Also, you must take into consideration how much you plan to use the software.  Our sales team can work with you to determine which pricing plan is best for your needs.  Click here to contact our sales department.

What is a runtime license?
A runtime license is a software license that would allow you to use our software within an application or workflow over a defined period of time.

Does JPEG2000 require special software to view?
It depends on how you are using the product. To avoid installing any additional software, you can get the LuraWave JP2 Image Content Server for web viewing of JPEG2000 images, which enables images to be converted “on-the-fly” to JPEG.  However, if you are building your own viewing applications, then any JP2 compliant codec will allow you to view the JPEG2000 images.
