LuraDocument PDF(/A) uses the same technology as LuraDocument
JPM for partitioning a document into three segments containing text,
fore- and background images. Compressed documents are stored as a
standard PDF(/A) file instead of an ISO compliant JPM file. Files
created with LuraDocument PDF(/A) can be viewed in Acrobat
Reader 7.0 and 6.0 as well as in Acrobat Reader 5.0 using the comaptibility
mode without installing any additional plug-in.
LuraDocument PDF(/A) files achieve the same quality at nearly
identical filesize as files compressed with LuraDocument JPM. Therewith
they are significantly smaller than conventional PDF(/A) files.
Due to easy viewing with Acrobat Reader LuraDocument PDF(/A) is
especially suited where files are exchanged frequently. Against the use
of the high-class LuraDocument JPM format is recommended whenever
compressed documents are to be processed automatically (e.g. OCR).
LuraDocument PDF(/A) is available as:
-
Exporter for KODAK Capture Software:
outputs scanned documents into compressed PDF, PDF/A and JPEG2000/Part6 (JPM) files, designed for Kodak Capture Software
-
QuickScan Pro Exporter:

The Concepts Behind LuraDocument PDF
|
 |
LuraDocument PDF is a document compression software preserving both the
readability of text and the visual quality and color of images within
a compound document. The underlying concept of the compression process
is the partitioning of the document into three distinct segments:
- a bilevel image containing text,
- a foreground image containing the color information of the text segments and
- a residual image devoid of text components.
Each distinct segment is then compressed using seperate algorithms
specifically adapted to the corresponding type of data.
The text is compressed losslessy using the Fax G4 format, the fore- and
background is highly compressed using the JPEG2000 format - providing
the well known, good image quality at a high compression rate.
LuraDocument proves to be particularly efficient for documents containing
large image components. The example shows a magazine page scanned at 300 dpi.
